Frequently Asked Questions

What is Western Herbal Medicine?

Western herbal medicine is the professional use of medicinal plants to support health and treat illness. It combines traditional European plant knowledge with modern scientific research. Prescriptions are tailored to each person and carefully checked for safety, including interactions with prescription medicines.

How many appointments will I need?

This will depend on the complexity of your case and how long you have been experiencing symptoms, but in general, expect 3 appointments: 1 new appointment and two follow ups about 4-6 weeks apart. After that, we can discuss what is appropriate for you.

How much does herbal medicine cost?

Medicine is separate from the consultation as each person is different. A month’s worth of tincture will cost about £50 and a month of herbal tea is £10 (100g). Capsules will all be individual amounts due to the varying costs of the supply. If cost is an issue for you, please let me know up front and I will adapt the prescription for you, but it may take a bit more time or require more effort (ie preparing your tea for yourself multiple times a day). With 1 new appointment and 2 follow ups, with medicine, this will be between £300-£350 over the course of 3/4 months.

Do you treat children?

I am currently only taking patients over the age of 18 but if you have a children that you would like seen by a herbalist, I can recommend other colleagues of mine.

Is herbal medicine safe alongside my prescription drugs?

I am fully insured and trained in understanding interactions and contraindications, so as part of your intake form, I will ask you if you are taking any prescription drugs. This way, in my prescription I will not prescribe anything that is unsafe for you to take whilst on your drugs.

How long until I see results?

I can let you know this during our appointment but we should see good results after those 3 appointments, but you will also likely experience improvements along the way in your symptoms. For hormonal support with things such as PCOS, painful periods, PMS, etc, you will need to give the herbs at least 3 months to help regulate cycles.

Do you see men as well as women?

We welcome all genders at Tincture Herbal Consultation and Dispensary

Do you do online consultations?

Yes, I do online consultations through Google Meet. Though if you are near enough to Bath, I would like to have the first consultation in person to be able to assess you better and examine you if necessary.

What if I can’t drink alcohol (in tinctures)?

This is one of the questions on the intake form. If you cannot drink alcohol, there are other methods of herbal medicine including teas, glycerites, powders, capsules and topical treatments.
